Brian Bosworth had no idea that Quinn Ewers was going to be his new deputy on the Fansville commercials. Dr Pepper decided not to tell him its plans so that he couldn’t shoot it down.
It was a complete surprise that was dropped on him during the first day of filming.
Bosworth, known best as The Boz, played for the University of Oklahoma from 1984 through 1986. He is one of the greatest college football players in history as a two-time All-American, two-time Big Eight Defensive Player of the Year, two-time Butkus Award winner and a national champion.
Although Bosworth was a fantastic player, he might be best known for his brash personality, his radical hairstyles, and his trash talk. Rarely Never once did the Boz mince words.
In fact, he was only a freshman when he famously trashed the Texas Longhorns.
I hate Texas, I hate (Texas coach) Freddie Akers and I hate that burnt orange color. It reminds me of people’s vomit.
— Brian Bosworth in 1984
Bosworth does not take back anything he said about Oklahoma’s biggest rival to this day.
Those were my true reflections about how I felt. It wasn’t just in the moment. I had always felt that way about the University of Texas. And that’s because I’m an Oklahoma boy. I’m Oklahoma proud.
— Brian Bosworth in 2020
The hatred is very real.
If you’re on the University of Oklahoma roster and you don’t have a disdain for the University of Texas, then you should transfer. Move on out.

Bosworth has since become the face of Dr Pepper’s ‘Fansville‘ advertising campaign in retirement. The 59-year-old serves as the Sheriff of the fictional college football town.
Following the introduction of Name, Image, and Likeness, Dr Pepper began to feature active collegiate players, first with D.J. Uiagalelei in 2021, then with Bryce Young in 2022, and Caleb Williams in 2023. Quinn Ewers took over as the deputy for 2024. He is the starting quarterback at Texas.
Dr Pepper decided not to tell Bosworth of the new addition because of how much he hates the Longhorns. The multibillion-dollar beverage company didn’t want him to try and shut it down.
And to its credit, Dr Pepper was absolutely right to keep Ewers a secret because Bosworth would’ve refused to participate.

Brian Bosworth ultimately warmed up to the idea after spending time with Quinn Ewers. He didn’t really have much of a choice so he made it work.
