Prior to Sunday, October 19, NFL teams had won 1,602 straight games when leading by at least 18 points in the final six minutes. And then the New York Giants happened.
On Sunday, during their Week 7 matchup against the Denver Broncos, Brian Daboll and the New York Giants had a 26-8 lead with six minutes left in the game.
That lead would not last, however, as Sean Payton’s Denver Broncos came back to win 33-32 on a last-second Will Lutz field goal.
Given the nature of the loss, both Giants players and fans were heated after the loss, with many calling for the head of defensive coordinator Shane Bowen. As it turns out, linebacker Brian Burns may agree, as he could be heard in the tunnels of Mile High Stadium blasting the coaching staff’s strategy toward the end of the game.

In a video taken by Giants reporter James Palmer, Burns could be heard voicing his anger over the team “dropping eight in coverage” on the final possession.

The loss — particularly of the nature of it — puts a dent in the momentum that the Giants had been building up after inserting the offensive rookie duo of quarterback Jaxson Dart and running back Cam Skattebo into the line-up.
The Giants will head into Week 8 with a 2-5 record when they take on the Philadelphia Eagles, who they just upset at home a few weeks ago. After two straight losses, however, the Eagles got back in the win column on Sunday with a road win over the Minnesota Vikings.
