LSU will still pay Brian Kelly his monthly salary while they figure out the buyout situation.
On Sunday, Kelly was fired after a contentious meeting with LSU Athletic Director Scott Woodward.

When Brian Kelly arrived at the LSU facility on Sunday morning, he was going through a list of assistant coaches that could potentially be fired. That led to a meeting with Scott Woodward, where both sides presented a case as to who should be let go.
It was at that moment that the relationship took a turn. Kelly immediately left the facility after that meeting, which is when AD Scott Woodward informed assistant coaches that they should go home for the day.
Immediately after, Governor Jeff Landry was called, where discussions shifted towards the buyout, and if it were going to be a problem to expensive to overcome.
While LSU has fired Kelly, they still haven’t figured out how to handle his $53 million buyout.
“Terms of the separation are still being negotiated.” LSU said via a statement.
According to college football Ross Dellenger, Kelly will continue to be paid his $800,000/month salary by LSU while the terms of the buyout are finalized.
For now, Brian Kelly will continue receiving his contractual compensation from LSU at roughly $800,000 monthly.
The two sides continue working toward an agreement over the $53 million buyout figure (a lump sum perhaps?), but such a resolution could be weeks or months away.
