Brian Kelly may have coached his last game at LSU.
On Saturday, LSU suffered a blowout loss to Texas A&M, prompting fans to chant “Fire Kelly” after the game.
During his postgame press conference, Kelly was asked about his future at LSU.
“That’s out of my hands,” Kelly said postgame. “It’s impossible for the head coach that’s been here for four years — and 35 years of doing this — to think anything else but this is my responsibility, and we’ve got to get it turned around. That’s not my decision in terms of whether I’m here or not, but that’s what I will do as a head coach that’s been doing it over three decades.”
On Sunday, Yahoo Sports’ Ross Dellenger reported that LSU administrators and Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry are having “high-level” discussions regarding Kelly and his $53 million buyout.

“LSU administrators and university executives have held and are holding high-level discussions over the future of football coach Brian Kelly, sources tell @YahooSport. While there is no immediate resolution, the conversations – which involve the state’s governor – are on-going.”
“Officials are considering various aspects in the decision on Kelly’s future, most notably a ~$53 million buyout of his contract, which is eased because of offset language (it is reduced by future work and would be delivered in installments over several years).”
“The situation in Baton Rouge is made complicated as the university is searching for a permanent president (the school announced five finalists). In its absence, Gov. Jeff Landry has become integral and is expected, if he hasn’t already, to meet with key donors & board members.”
ON3’s Pete Nakos is reporting that the team’s staff has been sent home amid discussions about Kelly’s future.
Sources have told @On3sports that LSU position coaches have been sent home from the facility, with Brian Kelly’s future with the Tigers an unknown. https://t.co/lQy9kP520U https://t.co/tQMu4J2KMX
