When you’re as tall as Victor Wembanyama is, there’s only so much you can do to avoid attracting attention when you go out in public even if you aren’t a generational talent who was recently selected with the top overall pick in the NBA Draft.
While the 7’5″ French phenom was already used to the spotlight before he was officially scooped up by the Spurs last month, the heat has only increased since he arrived in the United States, as he’s been swarmed by fans basically everywhere he’s shown his face over the past few weeks.

That certainly hasn’t changed since he arrived in Las Vegas ahead of his Summer League debut against Brandon Miller and the Hornets on Friday—and he’s already found himself involved in a pretty strange story courtesy of what unfolded at a restaurant on Wednesday night.
According to TMZ, Wembanyama decided to grab dinner at Catch inside the ARIA and was accompanied by the security team the Spurs assembled to keep their burgeoning franchise player safe during his time in Sin City.
The outlet reports the head of that detail wasted no time reacting after Wembanyama was approached by a fan who tapped him on the back in the hopes of getting a photo, as San Antonio’s Director of Team Security apparently slapped the person in question so hard that their glasses fell off and they stumbled to the ground.
What they apparently failed to realize, however, was that the person they struck was none other than Britney Spears, who was grabbing dinner in the same establishment before the fateful slap supposedly unfolded.
While the security guard apologized to the pop icon (he reportedly tried to justify his reaction by saying “You understand how it is when you’re being swarmed by fans”), Spears decided to file a police report over the alleged battery when the dust finally settled.
I didn’t have this on my 2023 Bingo Card, but congratulations to anyone who had the foresight to include it.
