Super Bowl LVIII will pit Brock Purdy and the San Francisco 49ers against Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs. The former is making a lot less money than the latter, which is not a secret at this point.

Mahomes is the second-highest paid player in the NFL behind Joe Burrow. Purdy was the lowest-paid quarterback among Week 1 starters back in September.

It is a truly unique dichotomy between two very different signal-callers that are both one win away from hoisting the Lombardi Trophy.

An article floated around on the internet last week that talked about how Purdy is making less money than a large number of college football players. The entire basis of said claim was based around an estimated worth in terms of NIL, and neglected to consider any of the 49ers quarterback’s endorsement deals. There was very little, if any, validity to what was written.

Both Mahomes and Purdy are making money off of the field through their names, images and likenesses just like college athletes — in addition to their annual salaries. There is no way to avoid the reigning Super Bowl MVP when you turn on your T.V. or look at social media. He’s everywhere!

Mahomes is making more money than Purdy through endorsements as well as through his pay.

However, one rather jarring statistic puts their individual contracts in perspective.

Patrick Mahomes will make $56.8 million in total this year. He threw 597 passes during the regular season and 103 passes during three postseason games. That comes out to approximately $81,100 per pass attempt.

Brock Purdy will make just $870,000 in total this year through his rookie contract as the last pick in the draft. He played 18 total games between the regular season and postseason. That comes out to approximately $48,300 per game.

Mahomes is making about 40% more per throw than Purdy made per game. They will both start at quarterback during Super Bowl LVIII. Wild!
