Bronny James, the son of NBA legend LeBron James, had to be rushed to a hospital on Monday after suffering from cardiac arrest. James’ current condition is reportedly stable and he is out of the intensive care unit.
According to TMZ, the medical emergency occurred on Monday, July 24 around 9:30 a.m. local time while James was practicing at the University of Southern California’s Galen Center, which is where the school’s basketball team both practices and plays.
A representative for the James family provided the following statement to TMZ:
“Yesterday while practicing Bronny James suffered a cardiac arrest. Medical staff was able to treat Bronny and take him to the hospital. He is now in stable condition and no longer in ICU. We ask for respect and privacy for the James family and we will update media when there is more information.”
“LeBron and Savannah wish to publicly send their deepest thanks and appreciation to the USC medical and athletic staff for their incredible work and dedication to the safety of their athletes.”
The 18-year-old James, a 2023 McDonald’s All-American point guard/shooting guard during his senior year of high school at Sierra Canyon, will begin attending USC as a member of the Trojans’ basketball team this fall. Bronny reportedly chose USC over Ohio State University and the University of Oregon. His father, of course, never went to college as that was before the NBA barred players from entering the draft the year they graduate high school.
Despite not yet being in college and “only” being the 40th ranked prospect in his graduating class, Bronny James — who already has sponsorship deals with the likes of Nike and Beats By Dre — is the #1 overall most valuable NIL athlete with a reported valuation of $7.5 million.
The eldest son of the future Hall of Famer, LeBron has long indicated that he would like to play with Bronny in the NBA before he retires.
