The Cleveland Browns 2024 season was over before it started due to their decision to stick with Deshaun Watson, who had proven to be terrible since returning to the league in 2022 after an injury and suspension. Watson led one of the worst offenses in the NFL this year before tearing his Achilles in Week 7 with the Browns at 1-6 after Week 7.

While he eventually threw some costly late interceptions in the team’s 41-32 loss on Monday Night Football against the Broncos, Winston impressed to the point where many were openly questioning as to why he didn’t have the job to begin with.

In seven games this year, Watson was putrid. His QBR of 22 was dreadful, and he was sacked a whopping 33 times. Most importantly, the team was wholly uninspired by him being out there.

Enter Jameis Winston. Winston has already upset AFC North foes and likely playoff teams in the Ravens and Steelers. And, he nearly beat the Broncos on Monday night with a huge performance that saw him throw for 497 yards and four touchdowns. The problem is, he also threw three interceptions, including two pick sixes.

Winston has been incredibly productive in his five starts, even if turnovers have hurt him as they have his whole career. Still, he’s been a huge upgrade over Watson. Had they gone with Winston to start the year, they could have been a playoff contender.

The Browns will be regretting the Deshaun Watson trade for a long time. Jameis Winston is proving that’s a move they didn’t have to make.
