Peter Bourque committed to play college football at Michigan. He will presumably serve as the heir apparent to Bryce Underwood upon arrival to Ann Arbor in two years.
However, the Wolverines’ newest commit for way down the road is actually older than their current freshman signal-caller.
This age discrepancy may not be that uncommon in college football but that does not make it any less bizarre. A true freshman is slated to backup a true junior even though he is the elder of the two.
Who is Peter Bourque?
The 6-foot-4, 210-pound quarterback will begin his junior season at the Tabor Academy in Marion, Massachusetts later this month. Borque ranks as the No. 8 player at his position and a top-100 player overall in the recruiting Class of 2027 as a four-star prospect.
He threw for 1,737 yards and 17 touchdowns with just three interceptions as a sophomore in 2024 en route to an 8-1 overall record. He also ran for 317 yards and four touchdowns.
Peter Borque is currently committed to Michigan with two years of high school football remaining. Things could change between now and 2027 but this is the plan for now.
Here is where things get weird!
How old is Bryce Underwood?
Underwood is likely going to be the starting quarterback for the Wolverines in 2025 as a true freshman. The No. 1 overall recruit will get paid approximately $12 million regardless of whether he wins the job.
It seems as though Bryce Underwood is going to start at Michigan for the next three seasons. He is going to be a junior when Borque arrives to campus.
If everything goes according to plan, Underwood will turn pro after three years of college football. Borque will serve as his backup as a freshman in 2027 as the expected starter for 2028.
And yet, the younger of the two quarterbacks in terms of academic standing is actually older than his predecessor in terms of age…
Peter Borque was born on July 24, 2007. Bryce Underwood was born on August 19, 2007.
Borque is already 18 years old as a rising junior in high school. He was already going to be one of the older quarterbacks in the recruiting Class of 2026 until he chose to reclassify back to 2027. Underwood will turn 18 years old just a few weeks before the first game of his college football career. Weird!
