In the midst of a wildly important third round at the US Open at Pinehurst on Saturday, Bryson Dechambeau stopped what he was doing to share an incredibly wholesome moment with a young fan.
The moment happened mid-way through an absolutely remarkable round for Dechambeau, who began the day one shot behind leader Ludvig Aberg and, at the time of writing, currently holds a three-shot lead over Rory McIlroy.
After teeing off on the third hole, he noticed a young fan wearing the Ben Hogan-esque driving cap that Dechambeau often wore early in his career.
Bryson just walked over to a kid wearing the Hogan hat he used to wear and signed his flag during the middle of his third round at the U.S. Open right after teeing off on No. 3. Pretty awesome.

Dechambeau stopped, walked over to the fan, and signed the flag that he was holding in his hand before continuing his round.
Bryson Dechambeau Is Quickly Turning Himself Into A Fan Favorite
It’s the second such interaction for Dechambeau with a young fan in as many major championships. During last month’s PGA Championship, he tossed a ball to a young fan that was intercepted by an adult. Dechambeau then stopped and made sure the kid received the ball before continuing on to the next hole.
The wildly likable interactions are a far cry from the early career persona that Dechambeau built as a brash, often prickly personality.
Dechambeau went on to finish in second place at the PGA Championship, one shot behind winner Xander Schauffele. But he handled the defeat with grace, immediately walking over to congratulate Schauffele after he sunk the winning putt.
“On my side of the coin, disappointing, but, whatever. I played well. Didn’t strike it my best all week. Felt like I had my ‘B’ game pretty much. My putting was A+, my wedging was A+, short game was A+, driving was like B,” Dechambeau said of her performance at the PGA.
He was clearly onto something. Dechambeau had his ‘A’ game on Saturday and put himself in position to claim his second career US Open victory after winning at Winged Foot in 2020.
