A bucking bull in Oklahoma caused quite the stir on social media with his most recent practice ride. The young bovine, known right now as K624 JB, drew comparisons to the legendary Bushwacker.
He looks like an absolute menace!
There is still a long way to go until this bull is ready for rodeo and/or PBR but his future is very bright. Remember the name…
How long until bucking bulls are ready for competition?
It typically takes about three to four years for a bucking bull to be ready for professional bull riding competition. They are bred specifically for bucking, often from proven bloodlines.
In this instance, K624 JB hails from Graham, Oklahoma. His name is temporary for identification purposes.
K264 JB is part of the ‘Bar K Bucking Bulls‘ ranch. Bar K has raised quite a few PBR bulls in the past — like Pearl Snap.
A general timeline for development usually looks something like this:
- Age 0-1 (Calf)
- Not bucked
- Age 1-2 (Yearling)
- Bucking begins
- Elevated to light bucking when ready
- Age 2-3 (Futurity)
- Competition begins using a dummy riding
- Judged based on performance, which identifies bulls with potential
- Age 3-4 (Competition)
- Ridden by humans
- Slowly integrated into lower-level competitions
- Age 4-7+ (Prime)
- Elevated to professional circuits
- Top bulls are invited to PBR
It’s not an exact science. Some bulls come along faster. Some take more time.
The developmental process depends mostly on two main factors: Genetics and training. Bulls from an elite bloodline normally mature quicker. Consistent exposure to the chute and to bucking helps to get a bull where he needs to be in less time. Health of the bull is perhaps most important.
K624 JB is being called the next Bushwacker.
K624 JB can’t be more than one or two years old because he is not yet bucking with a dummy rider. However, he is starting to put it together and already proving to be a menace.
Houston Sheets got him in the shoot the other day and let him loose. It was a violent eight-second ride!
That video picked up more than 1.5 million views in less than 48 hours and K624 JB was labeled in the comment section as the “next Bushwacker.” Bushwacker is one of the baddest bucking bulls that ever lived.
That is a lofty comparison for a one- or two-year-old bull. He may never get any better than he is right now. There is no way to know until his next ride.
In the meantime, K624 JB is on a fast track to greatness. The next Bushwacker? We’ll see…
