Buffalo Bills Drop Beer Made With Snow Shoveled From Inside Their Stadium

There aren’t many cities in the United States that get more snow on an annual basis than Buffalo, and the Bills routinely turn to fans who are tasked with clearing out the stadium if a blizzard sweeps through the area ahead of a game. More than a few of them will crack open a beer after their shift is over, and the team has decided to honor the tradition with a limited-edition brew made from snow sourced from the venue it calls home.

Syracuse leads the way when it comes to the cities in upstate New York that record the most snow per year with the 114.3 inches it receives on average. However, Buffalo also gets its fair share thanks in no small part to the lake effect that contributes to the 92 inches that are dumped on the metro area on an annual basis.

Those storms have been the source of a number of so-called “Snow Bowls” featuring the Bills, and the franchise has historically recruited locals to show up to Highmark Stadium to clear out the stands with shovels if a blizzard rolls through shortly before a game is slated to get underway.

It’s one of the NFL’s cooler traditions (both figuratively and literally), and it’s served as the inspiration for a beer made with some snow that fell earlier this year.

The Bills run a snow removal program that gives fans the chance to sign up for a gig that pays $20 an hour and boasts a spread of food and hot beverages to keep them warm and fueled while shoveling snow at their stadium.

That tradition will be sadly coming to an end when the Bills move to their new home in 2026; the franchise opted for an open-air design, but it will be turning to in-house employees and contracted workers to handle any snow removal issues after the building opens for business.

It’s only fitting that the team decided to pay tribute to the shovel-wielding member of Bills Mafia this season, and it did so by teaming up with Bud Light for a limited-edition “Blizzard Brew,” a beer that was made with melted snow taken from Highmark Stadium after the first measurable precipitation blanketed Buffalo toward the beginning of November.

It looks like the team will be serving up some of the 16-ounce cans when they host the Jets on an as-of-yet undetermined date when Week 18 rolls around at the start of January, and they’ll also be distributed to retailers in the area.
