Conditions In Buffalo Are So Bad That It Requires A Special Kind of Escort For Arriving Pittsburgh Steelers

Weather conditions in Buffalo are truly dreadful, bad enough that they forced the Governor of New York, Kathy Hochul, and the NFL into taking the rare step of moving the Bills-Steelers playoff game from Sunday to Monday.

There are a lot of reasons as to why that decision had to be made. One of them was the fact that it would be difficult for the visiting Steelers to even get to the Buffalo area for the game in suburban Orchard Park.

It may be hard for those not familiar with lake effect snow, even a few miles further from the lake can make a huge difference in the amount of snowfall that a particular location gets. Orchard Park is located in an area that routinely gets some of the very worst snowfall off Lake Erie, and can get twice as much or more compared to Buffalo proper.

That led to a travel ban in the Buffalo area, as last year dozens of people died in a similar blizzard, partly due to the fact that emergency vehicles could not travel on raods clogged up with stranded drivers.

But, the Steelers need to get to Buffalo for Monday’s game at 4:30PM, and their flight did actually get off the ground from Pittsburgh en route to Buffalo.

That means that those at the Buffalo Niagara International Airport deemed that it was safe enough to fly into the area, which is certainly a good sign.

But, how will the Steelers get to their hotel once they touch down in Western New York? Enter a snow plow escort.

I have never heard of such a thing, but if there was ever a time for it, this is it. Overall, just a strange situation in Buffalo.
