The Texas A&M basketball team took down top-ranked Auburn in their final home game of the regular season. It was a historic night for the program, which had never toppled a No. 1 team.
Head coach Buzz Williams noted how difficult it was to beat the best after the fact. It’s an opportunity seldom seen, and one much tougher to capitalize on.
“This is my fourth time playing a No. 1 team. Texas A&M basketball has been in existence for 113 years and this was just our tenth game against a No. 1 team. It’s rare. This was the most seniors ever on a Senior Night. I’ll always remember it.”

It was a game the Aggies controlled throughout. Auburn never led in the matchup. Bruce Pearl credited Texas A&M with “manhandling” his lineup.
After 40 minutes of dominance, fans wanted to celebrate. They were unable to do so in typical fashion.
Texas A&M basketball fans DID NOT storm the court thanks to Buzz Williams.
The coach begged the fanbase not to leave their seats. In doing so, he saved the university a $100,000 fine from the SEC.
Down goes No. 1 Auburn, as Texas A&M wins 83-72.
It’s going to be a wild SEC Tournament. A few No. 1 seeds on the line?

Money wasn’t the thing on Williams’ mind when preventing the celebration. He did it for all the right reasons.
It was Senior Night in College Station. A veteran Aggies roster is filled with players who’d just finished their final home game in Reed Arena.
One was Wade Taylor IV, the team’s leading scorer and assist man. He’s spent four seasons with the program. He has a chance to become the Aggies’ all-time points leader in his regular season finale.
He was honored after the win. Taylor’s jersey is now hanging in the rafters.

Buzz Williams wanted to ensure that his senior star got his moment. The fans in the stands provided a standing ovation for the guard, whose college career will soon come to an end.
The court storming decision worked two-fold for Texas A&M. They celebrated the career of an all-time great and they won’t have to write a six-figure paycheck to the league office. It wasn’t the worst way to cap the historic win!
