The BYU fanbase is one of the most generous in college sports. That kindness was on full display amid a Big 12 showdown with rival Kansas State.

The Cougars chipped in on an opposing player’s fundraising campaign in an effort to support a friend. In less than a week’s time, the goal was met and exceeded!

Starting Wildcats signal caller Avery Johnson posted a message on his social media outlets last Wednesday as he prepped for an upcoming contest in Provo. He’s raising money for his former high school principal in hopes of beating stage-four cancer.

For every touchdown Avery Johnson scores this year, he’s able to donate money towards his goal of $20,000. Fans also have the ability to pitch in with donations of their own.

The quarterback didn’t find the endzone in Kansas State’s 38-9 loss to BYU.

Still, his goal of $20K was achieved by Sunday!

How? BYU Fans!

And the donations continue to roll in, even after the game!

At the time of this writing, the total stands at more than $30,000. The new goal has been pushed to $40K.

If you look at the top givers, each has BYU in the username. There were many that opted to give a little jab with a $38.09 donation, but it’s all in good spirit!

Johnson commented on the environment witnessed firsthand in Provo after falling in that Big 12 matchup. They seemed to be behind him even though he was on the opposing sideline.

It’s not the first time the fanbase has made headlines for its generosity, and it won’t be the last.

Johnson got a chance to see the kindness shine through in an incredibly impactful way.
