Caden Tellier, a 16-year-old high school quarterback in Alabama, has tragically passed away after suffering a brain injury during a football game on Friday, August 23.

According to reports, Tellier was injured while making a tackle in the 3rd quarter of Morgan Academy’s opening game against Southern Academy. At this time, the specific nature of Tellier’s fatal injury is unclear.

Following the injury, Tellier was taken to a hospital in critical condition — he was flown to UAB Hospital in Birmingham — before ultimately succumbing to his injuries on Saturday, August 24.  Tellier had passed and rushed for a touchdown in the game before getting hurt.

“There are no words to describe how we feel as a school community and family. We will come together and support Jamie, Arsella, and Lyla with our whole hearts. We offer our deepest sympathy to the Tellier’s extended family as well,” the headmaster for Morgan Academy said in a statement.

Earlier this month, Semaj Wilkins, a 14-year-old high school football player at Brockton High School in Alabama, also died after collapsing on the field during practice.

“Our boy, Caden Tellier has met Jesus face to face. Everyone who knows Caden has known kindness, generosity and love, and true to his nature, he is giving of himself one more time. Lives have been touched by the way he lived and now lives will be saved through his passing,” Tellier’s parents said in a statement.

Due to Tellier’s untimely death, all school activities are suspended this week at Morgan Academy, which is located in Selma and has less than 350 students between kindergarten and 12th grade.

Our thoughts are with Tellier’s friends, family, and various loved ones during this difficult time. A GoFundMe page that’s been set up to raise money for the Tellier’s expenses can be found HERE, as well.
