Both Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark and Chicago Sky forward Angel Reese are headed to the 2024 WNBA All-Star game.

On Tuesday, July 2, the roster for the WNBA’s annual All-Star game was announced and both Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese were on it, marking the first time that two rookies were named to the WNBA’s All-Star game since 2014.

At about the halfway point of their rookie seasons, Clark is averaging 16 points, 7.1 assists, and 5.7 rebounds per game, while Reese — who set a WNBA record with 10 straight double-doubles (and counting) — is averaging 13.2 points, 11.8 rebounds, and 1.9 assists per game.

The 2024 WNBA All-Star game will be played in Phoenix, Arizona on July 20. The WNBA All-Stars will be taking on the United States women’s national team, which both were controversially omitted from.

Reacting to the news of the pair being selected to the All-Star game, Clark pointed out that she’s never had the opportunity to be Clark’s teammate.

“I don’t think I’ve ever been her teammate before, even at USA Basketball. I know people will be really excited about it, but I hope it doesn’t take away from everyone else,” Clark said.

“This is a huge accomplishment for everybody on Team USA and everyone on Team WNBA. They all deserve the same praise. I don’t want it to take away from any of that and be the focal point of All-Star weekend because that’s not fair to them.”

Given that the early goings of their WNBA careers have been defined by their rivalry, seeing Clark and Reese join forces will undeniably be a massive draw for the WNBA and will likely result in the most-watched All-Star game in league history.

Despite the narrative that the race for WNBA Rookie of the Year is neck-and-neck, the sportsbooks have Clark as the betting favorite to win the award with offs of around -750. Reese, on the other hand, has odds in the neighborhood of +400.
