Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese are the subjects of one of the most captivating and polarizing rivalries in all of sports right now. Things went up another notch, at least on social media, on Sunday when the two squared off for the second time in their respective WNBA careers.

Angel Reese was called for a flagrant foul against Caitlin Clark in the third quarter of Sunday’s matchup between Clark’s Fever and Reese’s Sky. Take a look at the play, in which Angel Reese strikes Caitlin Clark in the head.

Angel Reese was definitely out of control, but it didn’t seem like a cheap shot or that she intended to hit Caitlin Clark in the head.

After the game,  Reese said exactly that, saying it was a basketball play and that her intent was not to whack Caitlin Clark in the noggin.

And, after the game, Clark seemed to agree, forgiving Angel Reese for the flagrant foul.

Clark is a hooper, and she knows what are and are not basketball plays. While it was certainly reckless from Angel Reese, Clark definitely thinks it was a basketball play. That won’t calm down the craziers on Twitter who are claiming that it’s another “attack” on Caitlin Clark.

Caitlin Clark and the Fever won the game, 91-83, behind one of Clark’s best games in the WNBA. She had 23 points, 9 assists, and 8 rebounds on 7-11 shooting. Meanwhile, Reese continued to struggle finish around the basket, but had yet another double-double with 11 points and 13 rebounds.

This rivalry between not just Clark and Reese but the two teams is not going to cool down any time soon, either. Reese threw more fuel on the fire after the game after insinuating that Caitlin Clark gets a special whistle.
