Sheryl Swoopes’ Mockery Of Caitlin Clark Aged Poorly After Rookie Broke WNBA Assist Record

No player in WNBA history has ever dished out more assists in a single season than Caitlin Clark. As a result, Sheryl Swoopes is forced to eat her words (emotions?) after laughing at the rookie prior to draft night.

The 53-year-old’s well-vocalized stance as a hater aged very poorly.

Clark set a WNBA record during the Fever’s four-point loss to the Aces on Friday night. She recorded nine assists and eight rebounds with 18 points. That first number is the important one in this context.

Indiana’s superstar guard set the single-season assist record at 321 assists and counting. There are still two games left in her rookie year!

Alyssa Thomas previously held the record at 316. The Connecticut Sun forward set the mark to beat in 2023. Clark surpassed her total in 2024β€” and it would’ve happened a lot sooner if her teammates didn’t drop so many saucy passes during the early season.

Thomas and Swoopes were confident that the No. 1 overall pick would not get to that point. They were wrong.

Dijonai Carrington made a bold prediction about Clark on X during Iowa’s national championship loss to South Carolina on April 7. She was in awe of the Hawkeyes’ point guard. Not even as a scorer, but as a passer.

Caitlin might lead the league in assists this year.

Thomas responded back to her teammate and put Clark on notice.

Don’t play with me Nai πŸ˜‚

Swoopes also got involved. The three-time MVP has a major problem with Clark’s fans. She claims that her beef is not with the player herself, but history would suggest otherwise.

Nevertheless, Swoopes laughed (out loud online) at Carrington for thinking that Clark would have more assists than Thomas or anybody else in the WNBA as a rookie.

Her take did not age well…

Not only is Caitlin Clark going to finish with the most assists in the WNBA this season, ahead of Thomas by a comfortable margin, she actually set a record in the category. Sheryl Swoopes laughed then.

Who is laughing now?!
