Caitlin Clark did not play during the first preseason game of her second WNBA season with the Indiana Fever. However, she returned to the floor on Sunday at Carver-Hawkeye Arena, home to the University of Iowa women’s basketball program.
It was a homecoming that the fans and her opponent will not soon forget!
Clark played 19 minutes during a 64-point win over the Brazilian National Team at the place where she became the greatest scorer in college basketball history. The reigning WNBA Rookie of the Year finished with 16 points, five assists and six rebounds. She made six of her 10 shots, with four of six from beyond the arc. Indiana looked like a legitimate title contender against an opponent that scored 62 against Chicago just two days prior.
The Fever won 108-44. The Sky won 89-62. It is only the preseason but you can take from that what you will.
One particular moment from Sunday’s exhibition contest was especially fun.
Caitlin Clark famously broke the all-time collegiate scoring record on a deep triple from the logo. Iowa later put a No. 22 sticker on its floor at Carver-Hawkeye Arena to honor the historic shot.
Brazilian National Team players tried (and mostly failed) to match Clark’s three-point range in a TikTok video prior to the game. They were then on the wrong end of the aforementioned range during the game.
Caitlin Clark pulled up from beyond the No. 22 logo during the third quarter on Sunday and knocked it down. Hawkeyes fans went bonkers. As did the Fever bench.
The Brazilian defender ended up in one of those movie-like situations where the record scratches and the narrator says: “you’re probably wondering how I got here.”

The Brazilian head coach, Leo Figueiro shrugged in a manner very similar to that of Hailey Van Lith during the Elite Eight of March Madness in 2024. He, like HVL, was bewildered by Clark’s greatness. What else can you do?!

Figueiro later gave high praise to Caitlin Clark during a wholesome exchange.

“You’re an amazing player congratulations. you’ve changed changed the history in basketball”
“I appreciate it thanks for coming here. most people you’ve played in front of?”
“Yeah” 😭 pic.twitter.com/T4oGGVHOQO
Needless to say, No. 22’s return to Iowa was an overwhelming success. She left the Brazilian National Team with no choice but to throw up their hands in awe of her greatness!
