Caitlin Clark has had enough basketball, at least for the time being.
Following her historic rookie season in the WNBA, reporters asked Clark what her plans were for the offseason. Her answer? “Maybe play some golf. I think that’s what I’m gonna do until it gets too cold in Indiana. So now I got that. I’ll become a professional golfer.”
It was a fun, lighthearted response from someone who has played an immense amount of basketball in the last 12 months.
Or was it? As it turns out, Clark is set to make good on that promise by entering an LPGA Tour Pro-Am event on Nov. 13.
Caitlin Clark Set To Tee It Up At LPGA Tour Event As Part Of Pro-Am
Clark is set to speak at the Women’s Leadership Summit at Pelican Golf Club the day prior.
She’ll then team with women’s golf legend Annika Sorenstam in the pro-am portion of the tournament.
“I love golf so the opportunity to play in the pro-am for a tournament with a legend like Annika Sorenstam’s name on it is so exciting,” Clark said. “I’m looking forward to seeing all the LPGA players on the driving range, being part of the Women’s Leadership Summit, and, of course, teeing it up in the pro-am with Annika.”
Despite a slow start, Clark had a remarkable rookie year in the W. She finished just one vote away from a unanimous Rookie of the Year selection and even earned the praise of LeBron James.
“I have a great deal of respect for Caitlin Clark, because I know exactly what it means to be drafted, be the face of a franchise, and also get the scrutiny from a lot of people that don’t believe you’re ready for the next jump, don’t believe you’re ready for the big leagues, and just don’t think that you belong,” James said. “And I remember that when I came into the league at eighteen years old how many people doubted me and hoped and prayed that I’d fail.”
Much like James, Clark could well take her league to new heights with her immense popularity.
