Caitlin Clark is the biggest star in WNBA history as a rookie and her teammates are very grateful for all that she has done for the league. NaLyssa Smith and Kelsey Mitchell offered high praise for their point guard that has Sheryl Swoopes in shambles.

The legendary 53-year-old put her foot in her mouth, again.

Swoopes, for whatever reason, refuses to acknowledge Clark as the talent that she is. It is exhausting.

In her most recent rant, Swoopes boldly claimed that many players on the Indiana Fever do not want to be there because of the drama that follows the team. However, she fails to realize that a lot of the headlines stem from her own criticisms. And most of them have proved to be untrue.

Erica Wheeler recently stood up against Swoopes’ unfounded narrative about the dynamics of the locker room in Indianapolis. NaLyssa Smith and Kelsey Mitchell offered similar praise for Clark on Thursday night.

The Washington Mystics moved its game against the Indiana Fever from its typical home arena to Capital Arena, home of the Capitals and the Wizards. They set an all-time attendance record at 20,711.

It would be silly not to acknowledge Clark’s role in the massive crowd. A large number of them were there to watch her, not the Mystics. Fever and Iowa jerseys equaled or out-numbered that of the home team.

Kelsey Mitchell is very aware of how the No. 1 overall pick brought more eyeballs to the WNBA. She is grateful for the increased interest. She hopes to perform well for the new fans.

NaLyssa Smith — one of the players that Swoopes indirectly claimed is unhappy — made it very clear that Indiana appreciates Clark for getting the league to where it is today. They have always wanted to play in sold-out arenas and it would not have happened without the greatest scorer in college basketball history.

Although the third-year veteran did not speak on behalf of the entire league, her gratitude is not singular.

Sheryl Swoopes said that playing with Caitlin Clark made her teammates want to leave. In reality, it gives them an opportunity to live their dream.
