Caitlin Clark is not going to close the door on the Paris Olympics before it is necessary. The most popular women’s basketball player of all-time and greatest scorer in college basketball history could still make the Team USA roster if there are unforeseen circumstances that impact the current team.
“If” is the key word there, of which there are many.
Clark, who was reportedly left off of the 12-person roster for behind-the-scenes political reasons, spoke to the media for the first time since the news broke on Sunday. She took the high road. She often does.
Caitlin Clark is leading with grace!
The 22-year-old superstar offered high praise for the 12 women who made the team and wishes them nothing but the best. Clark understands that it is extremely difficult to get an invite. There are no hard feelings toward players or coaches, who let her know that she didn’t make the team before it leaked to the media, and she is not disappointed because it gives her something more to work for in the future. A month off to rest and recover will also be good for her body.
However, as Clark spoke about her reaction to the Olympic team snub, a smirk spread across her face.
It is not a secret that she wanted to play for the United States in Paris. It is her dream to play for the U.S.
Even if Clark is handling this situation with grace, you can tell that the omission is a bummer.
When it comes to not making the Olympic team, Caitlin Clark has nothing but praise for the 12 who made it: “it’s the toughest team to make.”

With that being said, there is still a chance that Caitlin Clark could play for Team USA at the 2024 Olympic Games. It would require some unfortunate circumstances, like an injury or withdrawal, but it is definitely not out of the picture all together. The door is still ever so slightly cracked open.
Should Clark receive a late invitation to play in Paris, the opportunity would be hard to turn down. She will make that decision at a later date when if necessary. In the meantime, her focus is on the Indiana Fever.

Team USA will open Olympic play against Japan on July 29th in Lille, France. With almost two months to go, Caitlin Clark’s dream of playing at this year’s Games are not completely dashed even though it is highly unlikely at this point.
