After a slow start, Caitlin Clark‘s debut season with the Indiana Fever couldn’t have gone much better than either she or the team could have hoped down the stretch. Clark was named the near-unanimous WNBA Rookie of the Year (missing out by one vote). She also led the Fever to the playoffs for the first time since 2016, and while they lost in the first round, Clark established herself as a budding superstar.
But this was just step one. Clark and company knew changes must be made to reach a WNBA Championship, which is the ultimate goal. One of those changes included replacing head coach Christine Sides. Sides struggled mightily to get the best out of both Clark and fellow star Aliyah Boston at the same time.
Indiana hired 2023 WNBA Coach of the Year Stephanie White to replace Sides. It brought in Amber Cox as its new general manager. And the Fever signed the franchise brought in veteran stars DeWanna Bonner and Natasha Howard to the fold.
Caitlin Clark Expresses Excitement Over Indiana Fever Offseason Acquisitions
Needless to say, Clark is fired up about the direction the organization is headed.
“They know what it takes to win, they know what it takes to get to the Finals, they know what it takes to win championships,” Clark said of Bonner and Howard . “I think it’s exactly what we needed in our locker room. But also they’re not just really good basketball players, they’re great leaders and great people and I know the front office prioritized that.”
Indiana went 20-20 in 2024 despite a dismal 3-10 star to the year. They finished the regular season as one of the league’s hottest teams. And now Clark is looking forward to getting back to work.
“I think it will be a lot of fun to get in the gym and be with my teammates and just start putting the pieces together and see what works or what doesn’t,” Clark said. “But I think we’re going to have a lot of different options to do a lot of different things. I think that’s what’s super exciting.”
Indiana appears to be headed in the right direction. And with a confident, experienced Clark, the entire league is official on notice.
