There’s no doubt that Caitlin Clark plays basketball with a lot of passion and intensity. Other players may seem like they’re going thru the motions at times, but that’s never been able to describe Caitlin Clark.

But, that passion and intensity got the best of her late in the Indiana Fever’s 88-84 loss to the Connecticut Sun on Monday night. Clark vehemently disagreed with a call late in the game and got hit with a costly technical foul, costing her team a crucial point.

Here’s the full sequence.

Caitlin Clark is mad about not getting the foul call when she got stripped by Alyssa Thomas, which seems like a fair gripe.. Then, she was called with a transition take foul, which gives the other team a foul shot as well as possession. That was too much for Clark to bear, and she must have mouthed off.

Oh yeah, she definitely mouthed off.

The problem is, that earned her a technical foul, and gave the Sun another free throw. When DeWanna Bonner missed the first free throw of the two they had due to Clark’s actions, they still had one that they wouldn’t have had if Clark hadn’t lost her temper. Bonner made the second, and that was a huge point down the stretch!

It was a rough night for Caitlin Clark in general. She turned her ankle early in the game in a play that had to hurt. She came back in, though, and had an okay game statistically. Overall, she had 17 points on 5-11 shooting from the field. But, turnovers did add up again, as she had five more turnovers against an equal number of assists.

At 0-4, a player like her that is used to winning is surely getting frustrated. While I’m sure she’s not happy that her outburst hurt her team, maybe she needed to get some of that tension out and can play a little more free in the team’s upcoming games.

Caitlin Clark and the Fever are back in action on Wednesday on the road against the Seattle Storm.
