There isn’t a single MLB player who’s had a more spectacular season than Cal Raleigh, the Mariners catcher who also has one of the best nicknames in baseball thanks to the “Big Dumper” moniker. Now, he’s cashing in with the help of one company that’s capitalizing on an incredibly organic opportunity.
Major League Baseball has boasted countless players who earn nicknames based on their physical traits. The 6’10” Randy Johnson was aptly dubbed “The Big Unit,” Mordecai “Three Finger” Brown earned that sobriquet for reasons that were obvious when you took a look at his pitching hand, and Charles Hartnett was burdened with the fairly unfortunate “Old Tomato Face” thanks to his bright complexion.
There’s also Cal Raleigh, the catcher who made his MLB debut with the Mariners in 2021 and headed to the big leagues with a nickname he’d already earned during his time in the minors: “Big Dumper,” a reference to his fairly substantial derriere.
It took Raleigh a little bit of time to find his footing in The Show, but he eventually emerged as a power-hitting threat who’s earned a string of Silver Slugger nominations and won the Gold and Platinum Glove awards for his prowess behind the plate during the 2024 season.
Raleigh has followed up that campaign with a career season where he set an American League record by hitting 39 home runs before heading to the All-Star Game for the first time, and he also reigned supreme at the Home Run Derby after arriving in Atlanta.
The Mariners and their apparel partners have happily capitalized on the “Big Dumper” label (Jarred Kelenic, the Braves outfielder who initially played with Raleigh in the minors, is credited with dreaming it up), and the man who’s fully embraced it has leveraged it into the perfect sponsorship.
Cal “Big Dumper” Raleigh is now a spokesperson for a porta-potty company
There have been a number of college athletes who’ve been able to land NIL deals with the help of names that made them a very natural fit, and Raleigh has gone a similar route courtesy of Honey Bucket, a sanitation company that primarily specializes in portable toilets.

The brand shed some light on what the partnership will entail in a press release, saying:
Fans can expect appearances, exclusive content, and promotional campaigns featuring Cal, all centered around changing expectations for what people can expect from portable restrooms.
Well played.
