Chicago Bears’ #1 overall draft pick Caleb Williams is entering the NFL with as much hype as a quarterback has had since perhaps Andrew Luck.

Williams’ talent is so exciting, in fact, that the 22-year-old former USC Trojan and Oklahoma Sooner has been compared to future Hall of Fame New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers.

Appearing on Ryan Clark’s The Pivot podcast, Williams shared his feelings about being compared to Rodgers and unsurprisingly said it makes him feel good.

“It makes you feel good, It’s like the Kobe [Bryant] – [Michael Jordan] kind of thing where you watch and you mimic,” Williams said of the Rodgers comparisons.

“Sitting back, watching, learning taking in what I can take in and adapt to my game in my best way possible and make it my own. Some of it may look like some of what Pat does, some of what Aaron Rodgers does because they’re the best and to be the best you want to learn from the best. To be a leader, you got to first be a follower,” Williams continued. “With that I watch those guys, I follow those guys. …To get to that point where they are, winning Super Bowls, being MVPs or throwing these crazy passes is where I want to be.”

The Chicago Bears fanbase is certainly hoping those Rodgers comparisons come to fruition as the organization is famously desperate for a franchise quarterback. They’ll also be hoping he turns into a superstar a bit quicker than Rodgers did, as he famously sat behind Brett Favre for three years before becoming the team’s starter.

In the last seven years alone, they took Mitchell Trubisky at #2 overall in the 2017 NFL Draft and Justin Fields at #11 overall in the 2021 NFL Draft. Fields was traded to the Pittsburgh Steelers during the offseason, while Trubisky was ran out of town in 2020.
