Tyran Stokes is the No. 1 ranked basketball recruit in the country. He’s reportedly looking for a new home ahead of his final season.
The California product has withdrawn from Notre Dame (Sherman Oaks) High School. Questions now surround both his exit and his future.
The news comes just days before the start of the high school basketball season. The Knights are set to tip off Game 1 in less than two weeks on November 18th.
They’ve now learned they’ll be without their best player.
Who is Tyran Stokes?
The 6-7 forward is the top overall prospect in the 2026 recruiting cycle. As a junior, he averaged 21 points, 9.3 rebounds, and 3.9 assists a night.
Stokes is currently in the process of picking out a college. He holds offers from most every notable school but has whittled his list down to three finalists.
Those teams include Kentucky, Oregon, and Kansas.
With that college commitment looming, he looked to close out his high school basketball career with a bang. He will now do so in a new uniform according to Tarek Fattal of Sports Illustrated.
The 5-star hooper has withdrawn from school.
Notre Dame released a statement on the decision this week. Athletic director Alec Moss had the following to say:
“Notre Dame High School acknowledges Tyran Stokes‘ decision to withdraw and explore new opportunities. We appreciate the contributions he made to our basketball program and community during his time here. We wish Tyran all the best as he pursues his future goals, and we are confident he will find success.”

Fattal later went into further detail on the withdrawal. Speculation was initially sparked a few weeks back. His mysterious absence from a team photo session fueled the fire. By November 3, he was reportedly no longer on campus.
Stokes, who’d also recently joined the football team, had recently served a suspension. Disciplinary issues played a role in his exit.
Stokes was facing disciplinary issues at the school, including altercations with students. He served a suspension that kept him sidelined during multiple high school football games this season, and has not been at school this week, according to sources close to the situation.

Tyran Stokes will now suit up for a new team in his final high school season. It will be interesting to see if it impacts the top overall player’s recruitment moving forward.
