Normally, when someone brings up “cancel culture,” it’s a euphemism for someone facing minor consequences in response to their own actions. However, in the case of Cam Newton, he actually went and got himself canceled.

BET recently announced that it has canceled production of Newton’s show, 106 & Sports, after just eight episodes. The show itself was a revival of the highly popular rap and R&B show 106 & Park, which ran on the network from 2000 to 2014.

Cam Newton Has Nobody To Blame But Himself For Getting Canceled

The cancellation of Newton’s show comes just days after he stated on his Funky Friday podcast that he’s incapable of having platonic friendships with women.

“I’m not about to be around no women platonically,” Newton said. “Because I’m not about to play them type of games. It may be self-control. If she fine, I’m not about to have her around playing that I don’t think that she’s attractive. I don’t have good-looking women that’s friend around me.”

Those comments drew an awkward reaction from 106 & Sports co-host Ashley Nicole Moss, who didn’t seem overly happy with his viewpoint.

The show debuted on October 15, 2025, and had its final episode on Dec. 3, lasting just eight episodes and one season in total.

“When are these networks gonna realize NOBODY wants to watch or listen to Cam Newton?” one X user asked.

Although another believes that the network is at fault for the show’s failure.

“BET and other networks keep showing they are unwilling to adapt,” they wrote. “(The) majority of people these days are watching stuff on YouTube, social media and streaming services, there’s no reason for a show only being on programmed TV.. Put it on every platform so it has the possibility to reach everyone.”

Luckily for Newton, he’ll never have to want for money, and he makes regular guest appearances on ESPN First Take. Although we’ll see how long that lasts.
