Yankees Pitcher Cam Schlittler Forced To Deny He Used ChatGPT To Compose Statement Addressing Beef With Red Sox Fans

Yankees pitcher Cam Schlittler played a huge role in sending the Red Sox home for the season, and the Boston-area native subsequently found himself butting heads with some fans of the team he grew up rooting for. He attempted to smooth things over with a statement he posted online, and he had to deny that he got help from ChatGPT after getting called out over some suspicious signs.

Most athletes aren’t lucky enough to play for the team they supported before they turned pro, and there are plenty of people who’ve found themselves on the roster of a hated rival. That includes Cam Schlittler, who grew up as a Red Sox fan in Walpole, Massachusetts and played college ball in Boston at Northeastern before making his MLB debut with the Yankees over the summer.

The Bronx Bombers tapped Schlittler to take the mound for the deciding game of their wild card showdown against Boston in October, and he pitched an absolute gem while recording 12 strikeouts in the 4-0 victory that saw New York punch its ticket to the ALDS.

The 24-year-old told a salty Red Sox fan who chirped him after the win to turn their attention to the Bruins, and he poked fun at himself by redecorating his social media accounts with black and gold after the Yankees were eliminated by the Blue Jays.

He also noted some people who root for the BoSox went a bit too far when it came to harassing him (and his family) in the wake of his clutch performance, but he may have missed the mark after attempting to extend an olive branch.

Cam Schlittler denied he turned to A.I. to compose a largely unnecessary statement after attracting the ire of Red Sox fans

Baseball is objectively better when the Red Sox and the Yankees are both in a position to battle for a championship, and the fact that Schlittler was more than happy to embrace his role as a villain in Boston was a fantastic development when it came to reigniting one of the most storied rivalries in sports.

It’s unfortunate some Red Sox supporters couldn’t stop themselves from crossing the line. As a result, I can’t necessarily blame Schlittler for trying to address the tension he’s found himself dealing with when he posted a statement on Wednesday where he played both sides by noting how he was shaped by the blue-collar spirit of Boston while reaffirming his passion for the pinstripes (he also made it clear he couldn’t care less about what Blue Jays fans think).

I don’t think anyone was really clamoring for a message that some astute observers noted appeared to be the work of ChatGPT based on the bubble he failed to crop out after posting it (the emdashes that have emerged as a telltale sign of A.I. also seemed to bit of a tipoff). However, he denied that was the case while asserting the bubble in question was actually a remnant from the Google Doc he used.

Schlittler noted he doesn’t have a dedicated PR team, although something tells me the one the Yankees do have might have had something to say about this if they were aware he was going to post it.
