Cam Ward is likely going to be the first player to hear his name called at the NFL Draft in Green Bay. It would be a massive surprise if the former Incarnate Word, Washington State and Miami quarterback does not get picked by the Tennessee Titans.
Ward will not slip past the New York Giants at No. 3, at the very worst.
Regardless of where he ends up, Cam Ward cannot wait to get out of Wisconsin. He made it abundantly clear that he is not a fan of Titletown.
Green Bay is the smallest city in the National Football League. With a population of approximately 105,000, it is actually the smallest market to have a major professional sports team in the United States in any league. It is entirely focused on/around the Packers. The people bleed green and yellow.
As a city built around football, Green Bay is not considered to be a top tourist destination outside of the fall. A quick Google search of ‘top things to do’ yields the following list:
- Lambeau Field
- Packers Hall of Fame
- Bay Beach Amusement Park
- Bay Beach Wildlife Sanctuary
- Green Bay Botanical Garden
- National Railroad Museum
- Children’s Museum
There are, of course, plenty of bars and restaurants but they lean more toward dive/sports bar than nightclub. It is a blue-collar drinking town, not a party town.
Cam Ward can’t wait to get out.
The presumptive No. 1 overall pick is currently in Green Bay to attend the NFL Draft. He is not impressed. And, as someone who spent the last 365+ days in Miami, he is cold. Temperatures currently hover around 55º during the day with lows in the upper 30s at night.
Ward is bored and cold. He said as much on the Wednesday prior to his big day:
Needless to say, Cam Ward cannot wait to end up in Nashville or New York— not Green Bay. He’s out!
