Cameron Young played his final round of the Masters alongside eventual champion Rory McIlroy on Sunday. Few words were exchanged as the duo battled for a Green Jacket.
Young opened up on his final day in Augusta after the fact. He was not offended by his playing partner, though he did fuel a narrative that dates back to last year’s event.
The two competitors sat deadlocked at -11 atop the leaderboard upon entering Day 4. Young was fresh off a 65 on Saturday while McIlroy took a step back in his third round with a 73.
Both had eyes set on a major championship. Any niceties ended at the first tee box.
Cameron Young played his final Masters round in silence.

“There was not much (conversation),” Young said after his third-place finish. “I’m not one to talk a ton to begin with, and I don’t think he really wanted to talk to me today…
“I don’t wish anything poorly on the guy. We’re playing against each other. I’m not trying to be best friends out there. I think it’s just one of those times where you leave each other be. There were one or two (moments), but not many.”
Young’s response shouldn’t come as a shock. There was a $4.5 million payday at the finish line. Both players were lobbying for positioning in the standings.
McIlroy’s name is the lone reason for any negative reaction from viewers. He was called out for being cold at last year’s tournament, too. That situation, however, was a bit different.

“He didn’t talk to me once all day,” DeChambeau said after the 2025 tournament. “He wouldn’t talk to me.”
The two players, in that case, had history revolving around DeChambeau’s split from the PGA Tour. The golfer moved onto LIV for a payday. McIlroy, meanwhile, crusaded for morality in his decision to stay put.
DeChambeau wanted to chat during his final round. McIlroy wasn’t open to conversation.
“He was just like – just being focused, I guess. That’s not me, though.”

In both cases, the laser focus proved beneficial to Rory McIlroy. He is now a two-time Masters champion after going back-to-back in his last to tournament appearances.
He’ll likely do the same next year if he finds himself in a similar position. At this point, the results speak for themselves.
