Apple TV+ has dropped the first official trailer for Cape Fear, a 10-episode limited series premiering June 5 that’s executive produced by Martin Scorsese and Steven Spielberg. The series stars Javier Bardem as Max Cady — a tattooed ex-convict who sets his sights on the attorneys he blames for putting him in prison.
Based on the 1957 John D. MacDonald novel The Executioner, the Max Cady role was made famous by Robert De Niro in the 1991 remake of Cape Fear that was directed by Scorsese and produced by Spielberg. The original 1962 film starred Gregory Peck and Robert Mitchum.
In addition to the Academy Award-winning Bardem as Cady, the AppleTV+ adaptation will also star Amy Adams and Patrick Wilson as Anna and Tom Bowden, a happily married couple of lawyers who are terrorized by Cady upon his release from prison. There aren’t many actors who can fill De Niro’s shoes, but Bardem may be one of them.
