Fox Soccer Disaster Rolls On As Carli Lloyd Compares Christian Pulisic To Messi, Daniel Sturridge Already Tired Of Alexi Lalas

The Euro and Copa America tournaments are saving (those wise enough to follow soccer) sports fans from the usual dead, dog days of sportsless summer following the conclusion of the NBA/NHL playoffs and the start of football season.

Unfortunately for American soccer fans, however, Fox Sports is the home of both the Euro 2024 and Copa America 2024, and their coverage has been a disaster thus far.

Not only did Fox Sports sublicense a handful of games to subscription-locked Fubo, and not only do those Fubo games not even include a scorebug, but they’re also subjecting audiences to the likes of Alexi Lalas and Carli Lloyd.

On Thursday, the first night of Copa America coverage, Lloyd hopped on the pregame show to preview the tournament and made a ludicrous comment about Christian Pulisic “coming up” as the next best player in the world after Lionel Messi and Jude Bellingham.

“There’s nobody like [Lionel] Messi. And I don’t think that there ever will be somebody like Messi,” Lloyd begins. Okay, so far so good.

“It’s a generational talent. It’s like Maradona.”  Alright, we’re still on track, what’s the big deal? She seems fine so far.

“And then Messi has just had that crown. But there’s other players; Jude Bellingham, Pulisic’s [25 years old] coming up.” NO, NO, CARLI, WHAT ARE YOU DOING?!

“I still can’t believe that Carli Lloyd said Christian Pulisic is one of the best players in the world. Crap like this is why people don’t take Americans seriously in this sport,” bemoaned one soccer fan.

Forgetting, for a moment, that Lloyd grouped Pulisic — who is an excellent player in his own right — with two of the greatest players to ever touch a soccer ball, there’s also the fact that she *didn’t* mention the likes of Kylian Mbappe, Erling Haaland, and Vinicius Jr., who are widely considered to be, alongside Bellingham, next in line for the claim of “best player in the world.”

That wasn’t Fox Sports’ only embarrassing moment of the day, however, as former England and Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge became visibly exasperated by Lalas while he was ranting and raving about England, using loud words with little meaning.

Making Fox Soccer’s disastrous coverage of the Euros and Copa America even worse is that, when the World Cup arrives in North America in 2026 — the final will be played at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey — Fox will be the broadcaster of that iconic tournament, too.
