Carson Beck threw one of the worst interceptions of the college football season thus far and then he proceeded to throw the Miami coaching staff directly under the bus. It was not a good look.
Not only are the Hurricanes out of the College Football Playoff picture (for now), they are falling apart at the seams.
Mario Cristobal has one of the largest estimated buyouts in college football right now so he is not going anywhere but this latest finger pointing from his quarterback could cause heads to roll around him. However, the multi-million-dollar signal-caller must also take accountability for the things he can control.
Carson Beck threw a back-breaking interception in overtime.
Beck, who transferred from Georgia to Miami during the offseason, was supposed to be a Heisman Trophy contender. He has thrown seven interceptions to 12 touchdowns in eight games.
Two of those picks were against unranked SMU on Saturday. The second of two put the proverbial nail in the coffin for the Hurricanes.
Beck looked his receiver the entire way and threw directly at the Mustangs defensive back.

To be fair, Joshisa Trader got mauled in the end zone— which likely should’ve been flagged as pass interference. That does not excuse Carson Beck. It was only third down so he would’ve been better off throwing the ball out of the back of the end zone. A sixth-year senior must not make that throw.
Miami’s quarterback blamed the coaching staff.
Beck had an opportunity to take accountability for his mediocre performance during his postgame press conference. A veteran leader had the chance to try and rally his team with a lot of season still left to play.
Instead, he pointed fingers.
Carson Beck (who looks absolutely exhausted) blamed Miami offensive coordinator Shannon Dawson for the lack of downfield play calls. There is nothing more that he can do, the 22-year-old said.
“They ran the same thing the whole time… I just execute the play that is called.”
That is not what you want to hear from your quarterback.
This is just another heartbreaking loss to add to Cristobal’s resume. Fans might want him to be fired for yet another big-game collapse, but his buyout reportedly hovers somewhere around $61 million.
That ain’t happening.
Thus, the next logical step would be to remove certain offensive staffers from their roles. Especially after what Beck had to say. We’ll see.
