Carson Steele made his first NFL start on Sunday night when the Kansas City Chiefs took on the Atlanta Falcons. Unfortunately, he had to miss a prior obligation to do so.

The running back was expected to be a groomsman in his sister’s wedding as the date had been set more than a year prior. The family didn’t plan on it being Carson’s big day, too!

Steele spent last season at UCLA following a transfer from Ball State. With the Cardinals, he ran for over 1,500 yards as a sophomore. In his lone season with the Bruins, he posted an 800-yard campaign.

While he went undrafted in the 2024 NFL Draft, the Chiefs gave him a shot as an unrestricted free agent. He’s making the most of his opportunity!

Andy Reid praised the bruising ball carrier in the preseason after seeing him in action.

“Physical kid. I know the guys were excited when he was carrying it… He’s a good football player. It didn’t look like they really wanted to tackle him, so that’s a plus if you’re a running back.”

That ability to run through opposing defenders led to early comparisons to NFL legend Mike Alstott. On Sunday, he showed why!

Carson Steele carried the ball 17 times against the Atlanta Falcons, totaling 72 yards. Though none of his runs went for double digit yardage, he consistently picked up positive gains on the ground.

While the rookie was making his first start, his family was watching along from his sister’s wedding reception.

The date was scheduled before anyone knew he’d be playing on Sundays. That didn’t stop them from tuning in.

It was a big day for everyone involved!

After the game, which the Chiefs won 22-17, Carson Steele was asked about missing his sister’s wedding. Here’s what he had to say:

“Man, I hate to say it, but I’d be here every day of the week… I love you, Kesslar. I hope it went well, but I’m picking this every day of the week.”

Steele was undoubtedly sad he had to miss the ceremony, but it was awesome to see his family supporting from home.
