Swiss rower CeCe Dupre is staying with her squad outside of the Olympic Village. Team Switzerland is one of a number of nations to opt out of Olympic arrangements in lieu of a more comfortable stay at a private hotel.

Dupre took to TikTok to explain the situation to followers with the 2024 Paris Games getting underway this week.

In that explanation, she not only laid out the reasoning behind the accommodation, but she blasted the Olympic Village setup.

“So, our venue where we race is about an hour to an hour and a half away from the village,” she said. “So, most of the nations opted out of staying in the village, because it would be just a logistical nightmare…

“Most nations chose to be in outside hotels. We get basically a private hotel to ourselves. It’s shut off to the public, to media, to everything. It’s only for us…

“We decided to NOT stay in the village. I’m not necessarily mad about it because I think it’s important that we are able to focus on our sport… We stayed one night in the village, and I didn’t sleep… I was just awake the entire time. The cardboard box bed was so uncomfortable. Hard as a rock. The Olympic duvet was really itchy and really hot. There is no A/C… It really was hot.”

It seems Dupre and Co. might’ve lucked out with their hotel stay, and she’s not alone.

Surfers also got an “off-campus” stay this summer, maybe landing the best housing of any athletes. They get to test out the first-ever floating village in Tahiti.

And they’ve been doing some serious partying, too!

The accommodations at the Olympic Village have been scrutinized to this point due to those cardboard beds and fishing net mattresses. CeCe Dupre seemed to confirm the stories of an uncomfortable village stay. Luckily, she gets to avoid it!
