LPGA star Charley Hull has been the talk of the tournament on this US Open weekend. In fact, the golfer went viral even before the event’s start!

Apparently, that growing fame far from dissipated in the days that followed as she experienced an uptick in support while playing in the major. In maybe the most hilarious of moments on Sunday, Hull filled followers in on an exchange that occurred between her and a fan during one of her four US Open rounds.

Hull wrapped up her Sunday with an impressive -3 showing, which moved her to +6 on the weekend and into the Top 20 on the leaderboard. While she wasn’t able to land that ever-elusive first major victory, she did find herself the center of attention for an off-course storyline.

The golfer was spotted signing autographs for fans in attendance during the week’s practice rounds while casually smoking a cigarette.

That habit continued into her opening round as she was oft photographed with heater in hand while walking the course.

Charley Hull offered hilarious reasoning behind her cigarette indulgence, joking that it was her way of successfully kicking another potentially frowned-upon habit.

That tidbit wouldn’t be the only interesting info dropped for golf fans to enjoy, though.

After finishing up her final round, Hull addressed the media. She spoke on that now-viral autograph session while also commenting on the uptick in support from patrons.

One attendee, in particular, swung for the fences with the golfer.

The US Open fan apparently dropped his phone number in hopes that Charley Hull would give him a ring. That attempt, while slick, failed miserably!

“It’s been crazy,” she said of the atmosphere. “Fans have been shouting my name this week. Someone said, ‘I’ve dropped something,’ and handed me their phone number in their hand on a piece of paper…

“It was like, ‘Here’s my number. Text me so we can figure out where I’m taking you to dinner tonight.’ I never texted him, obviously, but it was just so funny.”

Swing and a miss!

The moment highlighted a weekend which Hull seemed to thoroughly enjoy. While she didn’t achieve her goal of a major win, she was happy with her overall performance – and she landed some newfound fame in the process!
