Charlie Woods picked up an invite to the Junior Am Championship At Oakland Hills Country Club this week after winning a qualifying event in Florida. He bested 85 other players in the field, finishing at one-under on the day.

Many hoped that meant seeing Tiger Woods make an appearance on the bag in his coming championship tournament. Unfortunately, a USGA rule prevents his father from caddying!

The qualifier took place on Wednesday at Eagle Trace Golf Club in Coral Springs, with Woods being the only player to end his day below par. He beat runner-up Matthew Marigliano by a single stroke to land the top honor.

The top four players in that qualifying field landed invites to the Junior Am Championship, but Charlie Woods‘ name obviously provides the biggest draw. The son of legendary golfer Tiger Woods, he can often be seen with his dad as his caddie – which comes in handy when attempting to rack up tournament wins.

He won’t have that luxury at Oakland Hills!

Tiger Woods can’t caddie for Charlie at the Junior Am Championship.

USGA rule states that parents can’t be on the bag in these Junior Am events.

Per the USGA Junior Amateur Policy, a player may not use a parent, stepparent, or legal guardian as a
caddie during Qualifying or the Championship proper. A player is not required to employ a caddie for any
stage of the Championship.

That seemingly disqualifies Tiger from walking alongside his son for that championship event, which is set to be held in Michigan from July 22-27.

While he may not be able to caddy, you can bet he’ll be in the gallery.

The Open Championship ends the weekend prior in Scotland, which is set to be Tiger’s last scheduled tournament of the year.

“I’ll come back whenever I come back.”

Given his recent history in major events, Woods may not even make it to Sunday. Though he did make the cut at The Masters in April, he was unable to do so at both the PGA Championship and the US Open.

Should his weekend end early, it will give him even more time to get over to Michigan to take in the Junior Am Championship.

As for Charlie Woods, he’ll now prep for a 264-player field at Oakland Hills which will also include 15-year-old Miles Russell.

It should be exciting to watch!
