An Iowa State football player was accosted by a Colorado fan that rushed the field after an upset win in Boulder. His father has since addressed the situation publicly.

He applauded Cyclones coach Matt Campbell’s leadership during the confrontation. He also gave his opinion of the Buffs.

Iowa State travelled to Colorado for a Big 12 conference matchup. The Cyclones entered the contest ranked No. 22 in the AP Poll. The Buffaloes were winless in league play.

That didn’t stop the home team from squeaking out a victory. The Buffs won the game 24-17 with a strong second half performance.

Fans celebrated by rushing the field. Things got ugly soon thereafter.

Chase Sowell was confronted by a Colorado fan.

Video of the altercation is now circulating social media. It shows Sowell and the fan tussling over his helmet. The wideout eventually snatched it from the fan’s grasp before being escorted off the field.

Sowell got to the locker room unharmed. He walked out of Folsom Field alongside the coaching staff.

A crisis was averted, though the moment explained the need for the NCAA’s recent field storming crackdown. It also provided an answer for Deion Sanders who initially questioned the $50,000 fine incurred for the celebration.

Chase Sowell’s dad has seen the video. He offered his response on X.

A lot people have seen this video and we are lucky nothing crazy happened and my son is ok!!! But we will NOT let one person ruin our good time in Boulder. The Colorado players, coaches 99% of the fans treated Chase with RESPECT!!! We will ALWAYS have love for Colorado because they gave us a chance!!! But to have a head coach like COACH CAMPBELL and his Staff helping Chase get out of there is PRICELESS!!! Proud to be a CYCLONE!!!

Sowell played at Colorado one season before Deion Sanders took over. He transferred upon his arrival. The pass catcher landed at East Carolina before signing with Iowa State.

He, too, addressed he situation on social media.

The Sowell family hasn’t lost respect for the people of Boulder. One bad egg won’t ruin the bunch.
