Kansas City Chiefs Fans Rejoice As Chris Jones Secures The Bag With Potentially Massive New Contract

The Kansas City Chiefs took one look at life without superstar defensive tackle Chris Jones and decided that was enough.

Kansas City agreed to a new one-year deal with Jones on Monday afternoon that could make him one of the league’s top-paid players regardless of the position.

The new deal does not add any years to Jones’ contract. So the 29-year-old All-Pro will still be a free agent following the season.

Jones’ new contract is heavily incentive-based, per ESPN’s Adam Schefter. So he will have to early a large portion of the available money.

But if he plays anything like he has in recent years, where he’s made four consecutive Pro Bowl appearances, that won’t be much of an issue.

“Chris, can you please come back? You’re really scaring me,” Chiefs star tight end Travis Kelce Kelce said recently on the “New Heights” podcast with his brother, Philadelphia Eagles center Jason Kelce. “I don’t get it. You must know something that I don’t know because I just don’t get it. I really want to get another Super Bowl ring with you, brother. This is me bargaining you to just come back and play football for the Chiefs. Please, we need you. We need you bad.”

Kansas City did, in fact, need him back.

That much showed in week one when the Detroit Lions walked into Arrowhead Stadium and walked out with a 21-20 victory over the defending Super Bowl champs.

Detroit running backs David Montgomery and Jahmyr Gibbs combined for 116 yards on 28 carries. That’s an averaged of 4.1 yards per carries.

Chiefs players will be happy to have Jones back out there anchoring their defense. But Chiefs fans may be even more excited.

They showed as much on Twitter after the news came out.

Look out, NFL. The Kansas City Chiefs are back in business.
