Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes has admitted that he was motivated by the Cincinnati Bengals’ trash talk during last season’s NFL playoffs.
The revelation came to light in a recent clip from the popular docuseries “Quarterback” on Netflix.
Mahomes, known for his calm and composed demeanor both on and off the field, shared his thoughts on whether he would prefer to face the Buffalo Bills or the Cincinnati Bengals in the AFC Championship Game.
Despite believing that the Chiefs matched up better against the Bills, Mahomes expressed his desire to face the Bengals due to a personal vendetta.
“I think we match up better vs. the Bills, but I want to play the Bengals. I mean, just honestly,” Mahomes stated with a hint of amusement. “I just want to play them because we haven’t beaten them, and I’m tired of them talking.”
This is why @Netflix “Quarterback” is so cool to watch. Indeed, the Cincinnati Bengals had emerged victorious in their previous three encounters with the Chiefs, including the AFC Championship Game in the 2022 season. These losses seemed to have fueled Mahomes’ determination to secure a win against the Bengals in the playoffs.
The Kansas City Chiefs finally got their redemption against the Bengals in this year’s AFC Championship Game with a hard-fought 23-20 victory.
This win propelled them to Super Bowl LVII, where they defeated the Philadelphia Eagles to claim their second championship in the past four years.
