Chris Hunichen wins first World Series of Poker bracelet

The biggest buy-in tournament (so far) of the 2024 World Series of Poker wrapped up on Thursday with Chris Hunichen aka ‘Big Huni’ winning $2.838 million and his first World Series of Poker gold bracelet.

It is almost unfathomable that Chris Hunichen had not won a WSOP gold bracelet until now and it goes to show just how difficult it is to win at this level. Big Huni has 77 cashes (!!!) at the World Series of Poker and career WSOP earnings of $7,966,941 but it wasn’t until this final hand against Jeremy Ausmus that he won a gold bracelet.

Event #47: $100,000 High Roller No-Limit Hold’em saw 112 entries for a total prize pool of $10,836,000. If you’re going to win any WSOP bracelet outside of the Main Event, this is a pretty darn good one to win. Here is the final hand via PokerGo:

For winning Event #47: $100,000 High Roller No-Limit Hold’em, Hunichen earned 1,347.0 Player of the Year points in addition to his first gold bracelet and $2.838 million. This tournament also saw two other players take home over a million dollars. Jeremy Ausmus won $1,892,260 for 2nd place and Viktor Blom earned $1,311,091 for 3rd.

Going into the final table, I was certain Chance Kornuth was going to take it down but he finished in 4th place for only $932,725. Must be nice.

Prior to winning the High Roller, Chris Hunichen had some other big cashes. He took home $1,931,718 for 3rd place in the $250K buy-in High Roller at the 2022 World Series of Poker. Hunichen also earned $1,332,097 for a 2nd place finish in a 2020 WSOP Online event.
