Original article:
- 29-year-old midfielder Christian Eriksen collapsed on the pitch during Denmark’s first Euro 2020 match.
- Medics were forced to use resuscitative measures such as chest compressions and a defibrillator.
- The match between Denmark and Finland was suspended.
The third game of Euro 2020 between Denmark and Finland took a horrifying turn as medics were forced to use resuscitative measures such as chest compressions and a defibrillator on Danish midfielder Christian Eriksen.
As the match was approaching halftime, Eriksen went to collect a pass near Finland’s corner flag before suddenly collapsing face-first into the ground. Video of Eriksen’s collapse has been circulating on social media, but we will not be posting it here.
After approximately 10 minutes of medical attention, Eriksen — arguably Denmark’s marquee player and one of the world’s best attacking midfielders — was taken off the field on a stretcher surrounded by his Danish teammates. Eriksen was taken to a hospital for further evaluation. He is reportedly talking and breathing, according to his agent.
At this time, the match between Denmark and Finland has been suspended and it is unclear when it will be resumed.
Eriksen is coming off a 2020-21 campaign that saw him win a Serie A title with Inter Milan. Eriksen signed a four-year deal with the Italian club in 2020 following a seven-year stint with Premier League club Tottenham Hotspur.
