Christopher Morel homered in his first game with the Tampa Bay Rays on Tuesday night. It offered an emphatic entrance following his emotional exit from Chicago.

The Cubs traded Morel midway through a game last week, leading to tears in the dugout. He was sad to leave the club he’d spent his first three big league seasons with.

When the news was made public, the infielder was removed from a matchup against the Royals. He quickly hugged his now-former teammates as he made his way to the locker room.

“Right now, I can’t think or speak,” he posted on social media after the fact. “Tears are coming out, but my soul and my heart will always be in Chicago.”

In a Tuesday night matchup between Tampa Bay and Miami, Christopher Morel hit his first home run as a Ray. The 420-foot rocket soared quickly over the left field wall to cut a 2-0 deficit to one run.

Morel is one of the more likeable players in Major League Baseball, and his Chicago teammates echoed that sentiment after learning of the trade.

Known for his positivity and infectious attitude in the clubhouse, players and staff called him a joy to work with in the Windy City.

Now, he’ll set out to win over another squad and fanbase in Florida. He’s already gotten off to a great start!
