The Cincinnati Bengals and their fans clearly got too big from their britches.

After spending the week leading up to Sunday’s AFC Championship doing most of the trash-talking, the Bengals failed to back it up and ultimately lost to the Kansas City Chiefs by a score of 23-20.

Based on their postgame comments, it’s clear the Chiefs heard all of the talk out of Cincy and used it as bulletin board material. Travis Kelce, in particular, seemed particularly annoyed with comments from Cincinnati Mayor Aftab Pureval:

“I got some wise words for that Cincinnati Mayor… know your role and shut your mouth, ya jabroni,” Kelce said as he lifted the Lamar Hunt Trophy.

Taking to Twitter on Sunday night, Pureval took being dunked on in stride:

“Yeah. Deserved that. Congrats to KC on a well-fought win, and good luck in Arizona. Proud of our fans and our Bengals for the energy all year. Who Dey!”

Kelce certainly did his part to help the Chiefs get to the Super Bowl as he hauled in seven catches for 78 yards and one touchdown.

As a result of their 23-20 victory over the Cincinnati Bengals, the Kansas City Chiefs will take on the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LVII on Sunday, February 12.
