During his 18-year Major League Baseball career, Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Clayton Kershaw has made 455 regular season appearances. 451 of them were as a starter. In the post-season, Kershaw had appeared in 40 games, 32 as a starter. So when he was called into World Series Game 3 in the 12th inning Monday night with the bases loaded, no one knew what to expect from the 37-year-old future Hall of Famer.
One of those people who had a little more invested in the outcome of Clayton Kershaw’s relief appearance than just about anyone else Monday night was the pitcher’s wife of 15 years, Ellen. The moment was made even more stressful for her because there is a very good chance that it was the last time Clayton Kershaw will ever be on a Major League mound as he is set to retire after the World Series.

Clayton Kershaw joked about his wife not being ‘reliever-ready’
After the game, the three-time Cy Young Award winner was being interview by Lauren Shehadi and she brought up the emotional ride he put his wife Ellen through during his relief appearance.
“You need to check on your wife, by the way,” Shehadi told him. “I saw her, she was not well.”
“I know, she’s not reliever-ready,” Kershaw replied with a smile. “She’s starter-ready, she’s not reliever-ready, so I’m going to go check on her.”
"I'll remember moments like this… I can't believe I'm getting to be in another World Series at Dodger Stadium."
