Clippers Fan Forced To Literally Eat His Own Words After Team’s Unlikely 15-3 Run Comes Back To Haunt Him

The Clippers got off to an atrocious start this season, but they’ve clawed their way back into the playoff hunt during an impressive run that began shortly before Christmas. It was unlikely to the point where one fan promised to print out a tweet and eat it if the team was able to defy his expectations, and he’ll be doing exactly that after they turned things around in dramatic fashion.

Tyronn Lue led the Clippers to the playoffs in four of his first five seasons as their head coach, but they headed into the current campaign hoping to snap out of a postseason funk that’s seen them go one-and-done three years in a row.

It initially looked like they wouldn’t get the chance to be eliminated in the first round following a brutal start that saw the Clippers sitting at 6-21 midway through December after multiple five-game losing streaks.

However, a win over the Lakers on December 20th marked the start of an impressive turnaround. The victory ushered in a six-game winning streak, and the Clippers have gone 15-3 since then while inching toward the .500 mark and moving up to 10th place in the Western Conference with a 21-24 record.

That has come as a big surprise to one fan who was so confident they didn’t have what it took to go on a 15-3 tear that he promised to print out and eat the tweet where he asserted it wasn’t in the cards, and he’ll be following through after it got plenty of attention now that he’s been proved wrong.

A Clippers fan will eat a tweet where he said there was no chance they’d be able to get 15 wins in 18 games before they did exactly that

The vibes in Inglewood were anything but immaculate when the Clippers “improved” to 7-21 with the aforementioned defeat of the Lakers, but one semi-optimistic supporter predicted they’d figure out a way to have another disappointing finish in the playoffs with the help of a 15-3 run

Robert Flom, who serves as the managing editor for the Clippers blog 213 Hoops, disagreed with that assessment to the point where he pledged to print out and eat the tweet where he said there was no way they’d go 15-3 at any point during the season.

The Clippers had the chance to do exactly that after winning 14 of the 17 games they played before facing off against the Nets on Sunday, and they improved to 15-3 in the past 18 with a 126-89 win.

One spectator rolled up to the game with an oversized printout of Flom’s tweet, and the team shared a picture of a smaller one in the wake of the victory.

Lue even got in on the action by saying he wants to watch the tweet get eaten, and to his credit, Flom has promised to live up to his word on a podcast on Monday evening.
