After failing to retain All-Star outfielder Juan Soto, who signed a 15-year, $765 million contract with the New York Mets, the New York Yankees acquired 29 year old outfielder Cody Bellinger in a trade with the Chicago Cubs.
While acquiring Cody Bellinger will surely help improve the New York Yankees on the field, the clubhouse might have to navigate some off-field awkwardness first, as Bellinger’s fiancee Chase Carter used to date Yankees slugger Giancarlo Stanton.
Carter, a Maxim magazine and Sports Illustrated swimsuit model Chase Carter, began dating Bellinger in 2020 before the pair got engaged in 2023. In 2018, however, Carter was spotted in the Bahamas with Giancarlo Stanton after reportedly meeting at a softball charity event.

Bellinger and Carter share two daughters together: Caiden Carter Bellinger, born November 2021, and Cy Carter Bellinger, born April 2023.
“By the way, Cody Bellinger’s wife is Giancarlo Stanton’s ex. Talk about culture in the clubhouse,” one viral response to the Yankees acquisition of Bellinger read.
“Bellinger gonna have to share the locker room showers with Stanton. I just know that’s going to wreck that man,” another baseball fan noted.

A two-time All-Star and World Series champion with the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2020, Bellinger began his career with L.A. in 2017 and remained with the team until 2022.
Bellinger signed a one-year contract with the Cubs in 2022 and was named the National League Comeback Player of the Year the following season. Earlier this year, he signed a three-year, $80 million contract extension.
During the 2024 season with the Chicago Cubs, Bellinger had a .266 batting average to go along with 18 home runs, 78 RBIs, and 137 hits.
In addition to Bellinger, the Yankees have also acquired closer Devin Williams in a trade with the Milwaukee Brewers and signed former Atlanta Braves pitcher Max Fried to a 8-year, $218 million contract.
