Colby Covington ‘Khabib Was Scared Of Me’, Wants Islam Makhachev Fight

Colby Covington is making the media rounds and saying outlandish stuff again.

Earlier this week, UFC’s Dana White announced Covington will be facing Leon Edwards for the welterweight title at UFC 296 in December.

On Thursday, Covington spoke with James Lynch of MYMMA News and immediately blasted Edwards.

“I think it’s a great stylistic fight, southpaw to southpaw and I don’t think he can keep up with my well-roundedness. He’s going to be guessing the whole time, am I taking him down, or am I striking? Am I taking him down or am I striking? Now, I’m a black belt under sensei [Daniel] Valverde, my submission skills, my finishing skills, I’m coming to put this dude lights out. He’s ain’t making it 25 minutes come December 16 in T-Mobile Arena, Las Vegas, Nevada.”

Covington said that once he beats Edwards he wants Makhachev to move up and fight him.

“There’s that little Mongoloid. He’s been talking a little bit saying he wants to come up and fight in a real man’s division because he’s in a little boy’s weight class and I’m talking about Islam Makhachev. He’s fighting in a little man’s weight class. He’s fighting little m-dgets and he’s barely beating m-dgets. I mean, split decisions, split draws – it’s just pathetic.”

Colby claims that Islam’s mentor, Khabib Nurmagomedov, ducked him before retiring.

“He’s (Makhachev) trying to ride the coattails of Khabib’s success and what he was able to accomplish,”“He’s not Khabib, it’s not the same thing you know. Khabib was scared of me. He didn’t want to come up to welterweight cause of me so, even his daddy knows that it’s not smart to come up to welterweight.”
